Build a Library and Change a Town: Sanmen Youwei Library

As a global business we have the wonderful opportunity to regularly travel around the world. We are often impacted by the places we visit and the people we meet. We find ourselves bringing home stories of hope and inspiration to our colleagues, friends and family. One of these stories is the Sanmen Youwei Library.

Established in 2006, Sanmen Youwei Library is a rural non-for profit library that provides literacy education for local children. It was started by one of the owners of the main fabrication facility we work with in China. The focus of the library is to promote reading, expand cultural activities and ensure high levels of literacy among teenagers in the local community. Nearly 900 readers attend the library on average per month.

We were so impressed by the work the Youwei library, we decided to go and visit Sanmen for ourselves. It was incredible to witness first hand the work of the libraries 1,000 volunteers and 8 full time staff. They were putting the life changing gift of education into the hands of the neighbourhoods most underprivileged youth. We believed in the program so much, we decided as a company to commit $100K to the library over the next 10 years.

It’s a great privilege to discover and learn about the wonderful programs and initiatives going on around the world. It’s an even greater privilege to partner with them.
