After raising an incredible $27,500 at our Annual Charity Garage back in September, we handed the proceeds over to our employees to be divided up and given to their charities of choice. Each employee was given $1800 to donate to a cause close to them. We took some time out to ask a few of our employees about the ‘why’ behind how they decided to distribute their donations.
“The Special Olympics is very close to my heart with Tracey’s sister being involved as an athlete for many years. Also Brianne has decided to volunteer with the organization
Northern High School Key Club. This group is trying to help eliminate teen suicide at the high school by building a safe space at the school for students to socialize in a safe environment.
Alexander Mackenzie is a small school that provides high school education for kids with learning difficulties. Because this school is very small it does not receive the funding needed to provide uniforms and transportation to competitions. “
“I have been helping at the Special Needs Camp camp for 20 years. It amazes me more each year how these people are always happy & friendly. It is a very humbling experience, I wish everyone could be like that. “

“I chose to donate my $1800 to Ruth’s place, which Paul and Jan Smith also support. I felt compelled to support the program through discussions with Paul Smith. Paul and Jan offer their knowledge of art & horticulture and his farm as a way to help support Ruth’s Place programs.
Ruth’s Place is a Day Program focusing on lifelong learning, recreational, social and leisure opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. The program began in September 2012 and has grown to offering a Day Program 4 days week at Ruth’s Place near Oil Springs.”
This year for my garage sale money I am donating to St. Clair Child and Youth. They offer endless mental health resources to the community for children of all ages. They also have the family drop in centre that is free to anyone/child in the community to enjoy. When my girls were small we spent lots of time at the drop in centre.
